If you enjoy Jeff Hiller’s portrayal of Joel on HBO’s Somebody Somewhere, you will love Jeff’s new memoir Actress of a Certain Age. Or Actress of a Cetain Age if you happen to get one of the copies where the title was misspelled on the spine. Nice work Simon & Schuster! I listened to it on audiobook — something I mostly do with celebrity memoirs — and it is hilarious. Jeff starts each chapter with the name of a celebrity memoir, and I am not embarrassed to say that I have ready most of them. But not all of them! I have to add a few to my list.
Jeff was born in 1975 - but December 1975, so he’s not as old as you think as he keeps reminding us. Much like Joel, he’s just a very lovely person. In the chapter entitled “Speedbumps” (after Teri Garr’s memoir, which I have read obvs), Jeff talks about his “Oh shit!” moments (he’s lovely, but also a little scattered), and he had me laughing out loud. Reader, I don’t laugh out loud very often when reading a book, so bravo. This is a great little break from the daily news. I give Actress of a Certain Age 14 improv classes.
I just started this and it’s amazing
